Sometimes, the best makeup looks come from what you already have. This video uses tissue (kleenex or toilet paper) and a glue stick to create three dimensions on the face. This technique has so much potential in the world of character makeup—aging, dying, witches, zombies, and ghouls can all benefit from a little facial texture. The look also requires a liquid foundation and some colors for highlighting and low lighting. This can be achieved with either a powder or cream makeup. When you’re done, be sure to powder to set your work in stone. Some good questions to consider when creating texture on the face are:
- How does skin change shape as we age?
- What will my face look like some day?
Products used in this tutorial include:
- Washable glue stick
- Kryolan Derma Color Palette
- Elf Eyebrow Pencil
- Elf Eyeshadow Palette in Opposite Attract
- Elf Lipstick
- NYX Setting Powder
- Paper Towel
- A stipple paint brush, or stipple sponge, is used to create the bruise.
Spend some time making faces in the mirror to see where you already have lines on your forehead, cheeks, and eyes, and where lines will one day present themselves.
Our final tip is the world’s biggest secret: you can make a wound out of lipstick! Don’t tell mom, but lipstick and powder can make for one fast, scary wound, perfect for stage or parties. Add a few contour colors to create depth, and if you’re feeling extra scary, try adding an eyeshadow bruise from our previous blog post.
